Tasting of Paradise

The air was filled with the aroma of Texan barbequed meat, quesadillas, lobster rolls, falafel, doughnuts, crepes and fries.  “Off the Grid,” a family night food truck event, is located in the Foster City Recreation Center.  Families sat down in the many  chairs set up for them while a country music group played some “oldies”. Playing the tunes was a guitarist, and a drummer, who was playing on a box.

SMHS students, would love the warm atmosphere of this event. Having asked some students about their opinions on the food, some individuals(who wish not to be named), mentioned that the event was “lit,” and was also a fun place to hang out with friends. A large amount of people said that the food was “extremely good,” has “lots of flavor,” and that watching the sunrise from there was “beautiful.” Although it’s expensive, most think it’s still “worth the money”. Ethan DiNapoli, a junior at SMHS, said,  “They serve pretty good food although it’s overly priced… I still love it though!”

Even though it’s so expensive, it “gives us opportunities to try different flavors of food,” as stated by Akhil Manthina. I remembered I tried a donut truck and the donuts, filled with a special type of whipped cream in the dough with sprinkles on top was the “taste of paradise”. Busy adults would love the grab-and-go aspect here, since they can save time to getting dinner. Although there are many tasty options, many people still wish that there were healthier options other than fried or unhealthy tasty treats.

The crepes served at a food truck called “Japanese Crepes” were filled with what tasted like paradise. They were loaded with ice cream and fruits; such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. The raspberry ice cream was refreshing and ice-cold, like a “cool drink on a hot summer day”.

Overall, the food at “Off the Grid” is amazing and rich, the music is “all thumbs-up” and the scenery of the sunset is just beautiful and wondrous to look at. The location and dates for the next events can be found on the “Off the Grid” website. There are many events around the bay area. They are nearly held on every Wednesday from 5 to 9pm at the Foster City Recreation Center.
